NGC 7822 Emission Nebula and Open Star Cluster

NGC 7822 is a large cloud of gas and dust in the constellation of Cepheus. There is a bright young cluster of stars, named NGC 7762, up in the Northeast corner of the nebula. This is a rather large hydrogen emission nebula estimated to be about 300 light years away. It does not take much of a glance at the huge number of stars within this huge gas cloud to conclude that this is a very active star-forming region. The towers that can be seen to the right are known a dead giveaways to the formation of young stars.
